Clinton School of Public Service speaker series, through which the world comes to Little Rock, Arkansas. Two speakers in November 2013 held me rapt. The first was Dr. Eben Alexander, author of Proof of Heaven, talking about his soul’s journey to heaven while his body lay in brain-dead limbo after he suffered a catastrophic illness. The second was Sonali Deraniyagala, author of Wave, whose husband, sons, and parents were killed in the Indian Ocean tsunami that bore down on South Asia in 2004. She survived, and her talk in Little Rock was her first public speaking engagement describing her searing ordeal. I asked her about her choice to dedicate the book to two little English girls. They were her sons’ best friends, she said. They represent hope.

Videos of past speakers are available here.

A little free library outside a dog park, within the bounds of Burns Park in North Little Rock. Kai and I had the best time here Monday afternoon. Unbeknownst to me, as I watched my dog romp with other dogs in the fresh air and wide open space, a young man was being abducted and terrorized in another part of the larger park. The 18-year-old survived his ordeal, for which I am grateful. The hunt is on for the godless thugs who rained evil down on that sunlit day.
