A strong, capable woman (whose mother would have preferred that she be wearing the life jacket, but still, this is a great shot.) Location: Buffalo River, Arkansas. Photo by Hannah Hale.

My own crooked birthday cake. Dinner will be prepared by others, but I’m taking no chances with dessert. (Except for the chance that this cake might be terrible, because I’ve never made it before.) Recipe available here. If you make this, you might want to take care to distribute the batter evenly and rotate the cake pans during the baking process. I didn’t, obviously.

Being called “sweetness” in the drive-through line by the woman who handed me my breakfast, which trumps two “hons” at a diner.

A tired chihuahua whose need to be held conflicts with my need to use two hands to work on my laptop. Solution acceptable to all parties.

Pepperidge Farm Pirouette rolled wafers, chocolate hazelnut flavor. It’s impossible to eat just six.

Love this. You should write a blog. Dinah
I’m tickled you like it, Dinah! And, yes, I started writing a blog almost a year ago! Check out http://www.cookbookwall.com. Hope you are doing well. All my best, Kath
love the Chihuahua photo…my Chi needs someone to hold her all the time…its a full time job to spend the day with her, she wants all of my attention and hold her when she is tired – lol I love that dog so much! Her name is Cici and she is a baby 🙂
Thank you! I didn’t know how wonderful Chihuahuas were until my daughter Hannah brought this little guy into our lives. They are so full of personality and so easy to love. (Okay, sometimes the barking can get out of hand when someone walks by the house, but Bruiser’s still just doing his job, protecting his family.) He’s great. I’m sure Cici is, too.
